THE FUNNY STORY SHOW
Chicago’s hybrid stand-up/storytelling showcase will have it’s debut on May 18, 2012 at LooseLeaf Lounge with some of Chicago’s most talented funny storytellers.

The Funny Story Show is hosted by Caitlin Bergh, a Chicago comic known around town for her surprisingly honest, joke-filled stories. Bergh is a winner of the Moth StorySLAM and has performed with Cameron Esposito’s Side Mullet Nation at The Playground Theater and The Comedy Bar.

After the features, we will have the FUNNY STORY CHALLENGE: Two audience names are pulled from a hat and each person will have 5 minutes to tell a funny story on any topic. The winner (by audience applause) gets to come back for a featured spot the next month.

The debut show on May 18 will be held at LooseLeaf Lounge, 2915 N. Broadway. Scheduled to perform are comedians Kelsie Huff (www.kelsiehuff.com), Chris Condren (Atomic Comics), Lisa Laureta (www.lisalaureta.com), Peter-john Byrnes (Host for Natasha Leggero at Mayne Stage), Mollie Merkel (The Andy Kaufman Award) and Andy Fleming (Shine Box Comedy).

Hey friends,
I Wanna take a second of your time to announce a new project…
Standup Mixtape is a collaboration between Chicago label Underground Communique Records’ Justin Schwier & comic Cameron Esposito. Together Schwier & Esposito are throwing a series of shows taped inside a recording studio in front of small – 25 person – invite only audience. Each show will feature a pairing of great Chicago comics doing feature-length sets – plus Esposito as host – & each recording will be put out as collectible cassettes for sale exclusively at Reckless Records & through Underground Communique – as well as for (boring) download on the internet via all the major download media outlets, but also through our bandcamp page.

Our first show features Caitlin Bergh & James Fritz & tapes May 7th. Guest list is already full, but to get a free pair of tickets to our July 9th taping, email standupmixtape@gmail.com. The future is the past! Cassettes & jokes! Chicago!

……….
Ok, end press release.
By design, I like to keep things diverse with the label, so I am excited to start working on this project and be able to work behind the scenes of another love outside of music, that being standup comedy. This is a foray into a different world for the label. An exciting left turn down an unfamiliar street, but I really think a lot of the fans of the label are really going to enjoy this thing we’re calling Standup Mixtape. Cameron is a really great comedian and getting to be friends working out the ideas to do this has really been a fantastic experience already and we have only just begun.
It’s an exciting endeavor, and I hope a lot of you will get into this.
Thanks,
-justin.

Much more info will come in regards to this. Stay tuned.
the Chicago record labels, Lifeline and Underground Communique Records have signed on to co-release Long Island/Brooklyn, NY’s Too Many Voice’s 2011 demo as a 7″.

The band formed in 2010 by Andrew West (Kill Your Idols) and Eric Svirida (The Last Crime) patiently assembled the full line up by early 2011; adding Ivan Gonzalez (25 ta Life) on second guitar, Scott Winegard (Texas Is the Reason/Fountainhead/I Hate Our Freedom) on bass, and Chris Daly (Texas Is the Reason/108/Jets To Brazil) on drums. TMV recorded and self released the 4 song demo in the summer of 2011.

Shortly thereafter these recordings made their way to Joe Lifeline, who released several records for Kill Your Idols over the years. Not long after Joe tipped Justin from UC off to the bands existence and it was love at first listen. It didn’t take long for the labels to start talking about how cool it would be to have that demo as a 7″… fast forward a few months and we’re using this as an excuse to finally do a co-release.

The 7″ should be out in June or July, you can listen to the entire recording here:

Hi everyone,
The ever amazing The Fest that occurs every October in Gainesville, FL announced the bulk of the bands playing this year and it’s shaping up to be a pretty exciting line up (click here).

Like in previous years we have a pretty strong showing of bands playing that we’ve been fortunate to work with, those being:
Andrew Jackson Jihad
Cutman
Mustard Plug
New Bruises
Vacation Bible School

and then every year we try to promote the “label affiliated bands” (or those who feature members of bands we’ve released records in the past)
All Eyes West (members of Four Star Alarm, Explode and Make Up, the Story So Far); Black Clouds (members of O Pioneers!!!, New Bruises); Black God (members of Black Cross); Coliseum (members of Black Cross); Dan Vapid and the Cheats (members of the Methadones); Dead to Me (members of Olehole); Dear Landlord (members of the Copyrights); Iron Chic (members of Capital), Junior Battles (members of O Pioneers); Naked Raygun (member of the Methadones).

The year is early yet too, so these lists might just grow a bit longer by the time the Fest rolls around, I would almost guarantee it too.

On the Tuesday 24th January 2012, the US Senate will vote on the internet censorship bill.

Whilst it is an American law, it has far reaching repurcusions for the web as a whole.

There are many companies against SOPA, such as Google, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and today I am lending my weight to the argument by taking my site down for the day.

If you think SOPA doesn’t affect you, please think again. Watch the video below, or use the form below to force politicians to take notice.

Thank you
