Underground Communique Records – – Supporting anti-SOPA Blackout day

On the Tuesday 24th January 2012, the US Senate will vote on the internet censorship bill.

Whilst it is an American law, it has far reaching repurcusions for the web as a whole.

There are many companies against SOPA, such as Google, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and today I am lending my weight to the argument by taking my site down for the day.

If you think SOPA doesn’t affect you, please think again. Watch the video below, or use the form below to force politicians to take notice.

Thank you

Please welcome Eastland Disaster to the family.

Eastland Disater

Hey folks,
I wanted to announce that we’ll be releasing the debut 7″ for Chicago’s Eastland Disaster this spring. The band is comprised of Dan and Gina Knapik & Jim Farn, all of whom have been busy bodies over the years and have spent time in countless bands, like Not Rebecca, Venom Lords, the Black Sheep Band, Duress, Kamikaze Eyes, Textbook, Scotia Widows…just to name a few. They’re three of the nicest folks you’d ever want to meet and a really great band on top of that. I’m honored to be working with such amazing people and I hope you’ll enjoy their EP as well, you can hear 3/4 songs that will appear on it HERE, and read an interview with them OVER HERE.

They’re playing this Friday in Chicago at the Beat Kitchen with Dan Vapid and the Cheats, About the Mess and the Heat Tape. Please come out to the show if you’re around town, though it is a 21+ show…

Please explore our back catalog of releases too, we’re pushing 50 releases now, so there’s plenty to pick from, aside from the ever growing distro! We have the all you can buy shipping option of $4.99(US customers only), so this is a win=win situation to take advantage of!!

Additionally, effective immediately through Friday at midnight, anyone that buys any UCR Methadones release will get put into a drawing to win a Not Economically Viable test pressing!!

Shipping cost change in the UCR Distro/Store

I’m sure everyone is a little fatigued on spending money…I know I am…

Moving forward: (for all US orders only) I’ve decided to transition the distro to a $4.99 flat rate on shipping. So no matter how much you order, the shipping will be no more than that. Unless the USPS shipping rate jump in January 2012 make this financially detrimental, this will be the standard price for the next year, at least.

Please visit our store today and pick up a UCR release…or one of the many distro’d items!

The Heat Tape join the Underground Communiqué family!

heat tape cover art

The Heat Tape from Makanda, IL has signed on with Underground Communiqué Records for the release of their new eponymous 7”! This new four song single will be the bands follow up to their debut album, ‘Raccoon Valley Recordings’ which was released earlier this year on Red Scare.

Fronted by Brett Hunter from the Copyrights/Dear Landlord, the band continues their lo-fi and primitive-stomp sound that was the benchmark set on the debut. The songs have an effortless air to them and are stacked with infectious hooks that start with a casual, uncontrollable foot tapping along to the beat, quickly progressing to humming the tunes at any idle moment in the day and then into full on “obsesso mode.” These four songs are the perfect EP, there’s an ebb and flow to them and demand repeat listening. We couldn’t be more excited to be releasing this amazing EP!

Track listing:
1. Love and Sweat
2. Freebird
3. Elvis
4. Deaf and Blind

We expect to have these in sometime in early February.

For Fans of: the Marked Men, the Thermals, Scared of Chaka or the Exploding Hearts

The band has plans to get out and tour Europe this year, but in the mean time the only other show they have booked right now is Friday, January 13th in Chicago.

Upcoming Show:
Friday, January 13th
Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL
DAN VAPID AND THE CHEATS
THE HEAT TAPE
EASTLAND DISASTER
ABOUT THE MESS
Doors: 8:30 pm | Show: 9:00 pm Tickets: $10.00 | 17 & Over

In the meantime, stream their debut album at their bandcamp page: http://theheattape.bandcamp.com/

The Methadones “Not Economically Viable” remixed album now streaming

Hey everyone,
We launched a full album stream of the long awaited, re-mixed Methadones album “Not Economically Viable” that we will be releasing this December.

The bands third album overall, the first to feature the bands long running Vapid / Byrne / Mittler / Soucy line-up that would play on every recording through their demise in 2010. “Not Economically Viable” was originally recorded at Sonic Iguana in 2004 by Mass Giorgini & Phillip Hill, and released that year by Thick Records. The album was painstakingly re-mixed from the original masters by Matt Allison at Atlas Studios in Chicago and then re-mastered by Bill Henderson at Azimuth mastering in New Jersey.

The process took a long time, but some things are worth their weight in gold. The work that Matt put into the record is stunning. It sounds like they re-recorded the entire thing…he just dug through the raw tracks and re-built every song from scratch. If you put the CD version up to this it’s night and day, you’ll never be able to listen to the old version again. Additionally, we added a bonus track to the LP that was a song partially recorded during this session that the band went in and finished for this release.

After the band ended up breaking up in 2010, I just put the whole thing on hold for a variety of reasons, but I finally want to get this record out and share it with their fans all across the world, it’s the version their fans deserve to have available.

The album stream can be heard at our bandcamp page (click here)

enjoy and remind yourself of the absolute greatness of this album.
It’s been a long road, but I’m thrilled this record is finally going to happen.

Pre-order the Cutman LP, Magnificent CD, etc….

Hey folks,
I opened up the pre-order for the Cutman album this morning at the UCR Distro page!
The colors we got in are REALLY crazy…whatever you order is going to look insane…hence the amusing options to pick from:
http://undercomm.storenvy.com/products/162672-cutman-universal-laws-lp

the Cutman album is still streaming at Amp Magazine’s website HERE

There’s also a limited amount of copies of the Magnificent‘s “Bad Lucky” CD I put together so they’d have something to tour on while over here from the UK…they’re also touring down to the Fest with the Bomb. The Mag’s are a great band that tows the line between punk rock, with a almost 50′s rock and roll flair mixed with a few reggae-esque moments. Their album is streaming here at out bandcamp page
AND
Don’t forget we just put out the Outsiders “Untitled” CDEP too! They’re a great punk rock band from New Zealand! Their EP is streaming here at out bandcamp page

I made a list of when and where the UCR bands are playing this year, I’ll have fliers with this info at the Fest Registration Record Fair on Friday as well(at the Holiday Inn, Gainesville), but the list can be found Here at the UCR Facebook page
